Direct Instruction and Reading & Literacy Program

Using the Remediation Plus System together with Orton-Gillingham principles, Reflective pedagogy, and multisensory learning activities, we help bring students up to - and beyond - their expected level of proficiency.

This dynamic and highly effective approach involves implementing literacy strategies that cater to the diverse learning needs of each reader. Direct Instruction helps transform the reading landscape, by creating a holistic learning experience that ensures that all students acquire essential reading skills.

It takes a village to raise a reader. If referred by a teaching practitioner or therapist, we collaborate purposefully to synchronize academic plans and teaching tools to align with the recommendations provided, in turn maximizing student engagement and success.

Direct Instruction Features

Golden Scholars 101 supports students in the following areas:

Strengthen Phonemic Awareness: We take a systematic and multi-sensory approach to phonemic awareness where educational games and activities activate letter-sound correspondence through listening, seeing, doing.

Recognize Patterns: Students learn to identify patterns at letter, phrase, and sentence level, leading to the pattern recognition of larger units.

Improve Reading Comprehension: Students use higher-order thinking to build vocabulary knowledge and text comprehension, to establish a deeper understanding of the meaning in a text.

Boost Reading Fluency: Students develop the ability to decode (convert symbols to sounds) and encode (convert sounds to symbols) new and previously learned high-frequency words with accuracy, rate, and prosody (expression).

The Royal Readers Reading Club

Calling all readers!

The Royal Readers Reading Club serves school-age readers of all levels, while working to meet their unique socio-emotional and educational needs.

Together, we read a variety of texts, predominantly Afrocentric Literature, and learn more about our rich history and culture. Students learn to make connections, formulate an opinion, and develop effective verbal and written communication skills. The Royal Readers Reading Club is a diverse learning environment suitable for all ages. This unique design allows children to learn from the ideas and experiences of their peers, regardless of age difference.
